One of the coziest Big Boy restaurants in the whole metro area. Quick rewind: If you are not from Detroit, that's ok: Big boy has been around for many decades. Since the 40's in Detroit, I believe. They started in Glendale California as Bob's Pantry in 1936. The Big Boy double decker sandwich was introduced the following year and named Big Boy by a portly six year old. It is today rumored by some to be the actual inventor of the original Big Mac. Same as the original: two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce onions on a sesame seed bun. Allegedly, Ray Kroc stole the recipe and made it their own. Nevertheless, this is what put Big Boy on the map and Big Boy is know for their classic burgers. They have grown over time to include many locations throughout the metro area and the Elias Brothers chain was unique to Michigan and northern parts of Ohio. Most of Ohio and Kentucky had either Schoene's or Frisch's at up until about 30 years ago. They are also famous for their Famous Slim Jim sandwich (ham, Swiss cheese, tomato, lettuce and special sauce grilled and pressed on a sesame roll), pattie melts, Italian style spaghetti, ice cream hot fudge cake, salad bar and amazing breakfasts (they feature an all you can breakfast bar on most days.) What makes this location special is the amazing service, attentiveness, cleanliness and freshness of the ingredients compared to the other locations.

*Preface - I worked in the service industry and understand how demoralizing the job can be.* Food was what we expected and what we wanted. The problem was the service and our check-out. Our server was rude and seemed annoyed by us. We try hard to not be "those people" that show up a couple minutes before close. Our visit was shortly after 1PM on a Sunday. Our server had 3 tables. All of which were less than 3 people per table. We barely saw our server. She snapped at us after we placed our order. It was simple, no special allergy considerations, no take out. She was unpleasant. We always tip. I had no intent of doing that on this occasion. Her poor attitude earned it. The girl at the counter AUTOMATICALLY added 20% for us. She took the initiative to tell me how much of my money was going to be given. I didn't want to make a scene. This would be my forum to voice my I could tell the manager instructed her to do it because it was a reflex. He would likely be no help. We just won't go back. Make sure you tell the girl at the counter how much you want added to the check. Summary: 1) Food - cooked thoroughly, and tasted good 2) Service - Poor Overall

Pretty cool spot. We had simple orders chicken fingers and fries and a strawberry wrap. It all came in hot and tasty. The waitress was kind and attentive without being over bearing. It was what I think of when I think big boy. A homely menu meant for the neighborhood folk. It's one of those places you can meet a friend or family member and eat something very similar to what you might cook at home if you so desired

I've been going there for years, always greeted with a smile and service is usually fast! My daughter and I went the other day for breakfast had the best cook, order food with my coffee and it was done so fast! The food looked and tasted awesome!! Some ppl might have off days, that's no reason for bad reviews, I've never had bad service! I've lived here for almost 40 yrs

Dave the store manager was rude. "Do u have cabbage soup"? Dave, " i dont know, ask your server". Wow! Thats obnoxious! Food good, coleslaw needs to go back to the old recipe. But, unfortunately, the store manager Dave ruined my visit with the attitude. Absolutely no personality.

If I could put no star I would thats how bad this this big boy is. Ordering a to go order was a terrible mistake, not only was their nothing on the slim Jim the manager Dave when showed how their was nothing actually on the sandwich he then started calling me " honey" this is how we make our sandwiches here, not only was his customer service skills completely out of Line for being a manager , but he Was completely rude and didn't understand how to be a manager! All I would have wanted was a sincere apology and a refund, instead I had to deal with a irate manager with no customer service skills I see a manager position opening at big boys in the near future! My advice eat at another big boy just not this one!!!!!

Won't be back.. had the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger ordered medium well. Should've ordered it as just medium.. the burger was dry and bland.. was hoping for more beefy flavor but the only flavor I had was from the pickles and bbq sauce. The fries were very greasy and again bland... The place itself was kind of dingy and old. Did not enjoy this place or it's food at all.

3.25 stars The good: They know how to make a Big Boy right here, I complain a lot about how at all the Big Boys it doesn't taste as good as it was when I was a kid (of the 70's). but kudos to the cook here. The bad: I could make better coleslaw. Maybe it was sitting too long.

More of the same old sub-pare food Grosse Pointers are used to. This location is outdated and the restaurant is filthy.

Not top notch food but cheap. This pretty much sums up big boy. This is the closest big boy to me that doesn't charge per refill. They have vanished and quick. Such a shame! Still a bb lover I've only had a few not so hot experiences but it's been customers not food or service. Stupid stuff like, people wanting a booth and there's 7 of them so they split up and shouted a cross the restaurant. Ugh! People!

Place mats, all sweetener, jams, off the table. Probably the last trip to this Big Boy.

When we're out and about and just looking for some pretty quick casual food, we go here. The food is good, the salad bar is usually quite fresh, and the waitstaff are friendly. Food is always how I order it, but then again I'm not expecting an after dinner apertif and a napkin placed on my lap. It is Big Boy which is on par with Dennys, Rams Horn, Clock, and the like, so it should be measured within that group rather than by some show-offy "cuisine expert" or spoiled Grosse Pointer point of view.

Okay yes, I am reviewing a chain, and it's freakin' Big Boy to boot. But, this one is possibly the worst of the bunch. Service is usually decent, but it's always dirty, tables around you sit cluttered with plates for your entire meal, and it's always ridiculously cold. The food is beyond crappy. Knowing this, last time I was forced to come here I just ordered a burger with chedder, medium rare. For a place that got its start with burgers, they sure know how to ruin one. Mine came out completely well done, dry and hard, with no flavor. Avoid at all costs.

Service was excellent. Food was served hot and as i ordered. I was happy to see the restrooms clean. A manager was on the floor checking with patrons, which is very unusual for a Big Boy.
